Etymologie
Armatus (= mit einer Waffe bewaffnet), Anspielung nicht erklärt; basiert auf Sciaena armata Forsskål 1775 (ein nomen dubium), beschrieben als "nucha spinifera" (einen Nackenstachel tragend), was sich vielleicht auf das bezieht, was Rüppell als einen "nach vorne gerichteten" Stachel vor dem ersten Rückenflosse wie bei der Kaninchenfisch-Gattung Amphacanthus (= Siganus, Eupercaria: Siganidae); nach Smith (1973) ist dieser "Stachel" in Wirklichkeit der vordere Teil des dorsalen Pterygiophors, der bei "getrockneten oder geschrumpften" Exemplaren sichtbar ist und "sicherlich nie prominent genug ist, um ein Merkmal zu sein, nach dem man eine Art benennen kann". Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Rotes Meer, Golf von Oman und entlang der afrikanischen Küste (bis East London in Südafrika) und der Westküste von Madagaskar bis Südindien und Sri Lanka. Es gibt zuverlässige Berichte aus dem Golf von Thailand, Hongkong, Okinawa und Japan.

Status: Stand 27.1.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Obwohl dieset Art nachgestellt wird, wird dies global derzeit nicht als große Bedrohung angesehen.
