Gefahren für diese Art: Die lokalen Populationen von O. nashii sind durch die Veränderung ihres Lebensraums in den Flusssystemen infolge der Verschmutzung durch häusliche und landwirtschaftliche Quellen und destruktive Fischereipraktiken bedroht. Bergbau und Sedimentation im Unterlauf des Bhadra im Kudremukh-Nationalpark stellen ebenfalls eine Bedrohung für die lokalen Populationen dar.
