Etymologie
Macro- (= groß); lepis (= Schuppen), bezieht sich auf "sehr große und harte" Schuppen von Rücken und Seiten. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Ostafrika, Sokotra, Seychellen, Madagaskar, Rodrigues (Maskarenen) und Persischer Golf östlich bis zum Tuamotu-Archipel und den Marquesas-Inseln, nördlich bis Südkorea, südlich bis Neukaledonien, Aitutaki (Cookinseln) und Australinseln; auch angrenzende Flussmündungen und Süßwasserlebensräume in Afrika, Asien, Australien und Ozeanien.

Status: Stand 12.12.2020:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Die Art wird jedoch in ihrem gesamten Verbreitungsgebiet gefischt, weshalb die Populationen möglicherweise lokal betroffen sind.
