Typusfundort: Hubbard Creek bei Kinlock Road (FR 210), ca. 11 km nördlich von Rabbittown, (34.3074, -87.5034 (Karte), Lawrence County, Alabama, USA.
Etymologie
Der Name cyanoprosopum ist ein zusammengesetztes Wort aus dem Griechischen; kyanos, (= blau) und prosopon (= Gesicht), in Bezug auf die blaue Farbe am Kopf balzaktiver Männchen.
Verbreitung
Etheostoma cyanoprosopum hat eine sehr begrenzte geographische Verbreitung in Hochlandgebieten auf dem Cumberland Plateau, beschränkt auf kleine Bäche im oberen Bear Creek und dem Hubbard Creek System (Mobile Becken) oberhalb der Kinlock Fälle, in den Counties Franklin, Lawrence und Winston, Alabama. In den historisch belegten Vorkommensgebieten, im stromabwärts gelegenen Teil des oberen Bear Creek-Systems, scheint E. cyanoprosopum durch die Überschwemmung des Upper Bear Creek Reservoirs, das 1978 gebaut wurde, ausgerottet worden zu sein.
