Etymologie
Vom lateinischen crassa (= rund, dick oder fett), bezieht sich auf das rundliche Erscheinungsbild der Art.
Verbreitung
Dawkinsia lepida ist derzeit von seiner Typuslokalität bekannt, dem östlich fließenden Bhavani-Fluss, einem Nebenfluss im Cauvery-Flusssystems in Tamil Nadu, und auch aus zwei westlich fließenden Flüssen von Kerala, nämlich dem Muvattupuzha und Chalakudy.
