Etymologie

Oides (= mit der Form von): bezogen auf Coryphaenoides rupestris, hat eine „stumpfe Schnauze, eine schöne silberne Farbe und mehrere [andere] Merkmale“, die „mit den Dorado-ähnlichen Fischen (Coryphaenae) verglichen werden können“, d.h. Delphinfische, Gattung Coryphaena.
