Benannt zu Ehren des Farmers und Amateur-Naturforschers Roy Latham (1881-1979) aus Long Island, New York, USA, der die Typusexemplare sammelte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Westatlantik; nordöstlicher Atlantik: Azoren.

Status: Stand 23.08.2021:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Für diese Art sind keine größeren Bedrohungen bekannt. Hinweise auf regionale Fangückgänge gibt es derzeit nicht. Die Art wurde in der Nahrung des invasiven Rotfeuerfischs (Pterois volitans) im nördlichen Golf von Mexiko nachgewiesen.
