Neotypusfundort: Lagu Lagu Bach, südlicher Rand des "Visayan State Coll. of Agricole", etwa 1 Kilometer vom Meer entfernt, Leyte, Philippinen. Original Holotypus (zerstört): Irid River, Philippinen.
Etymologie
Atro- (= schwarz); purpureus (= violett), bezieht sich vermutlich auf die Färbung der Männchen im Balzkleid. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Nordwestpazifik: tropisch und subtropisch; Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippinen und das Festland von Südchina.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 29.08.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art scheint nicht unmittelbar bedroht zu sein. Obwohl sie für den Aquarienfischhandel gefangen wird, sind die Herkunftsorte und das Ausmaß der Entnahmen unbekannt. In Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets sind invasive, nicht einheimische Fischarten ein Problem. Auswirkungen auf seinen Lebensraum wie Abfluss, Schadstoffe, Wanderhindernisse und die Bebauung von Uferbereichen können sich ebenfalls auf die Populationen auswirken.
