Benannt zu Ehren von J. Malcolm Pierson, einem Ichthyologen, der herausragende Beiträge zur Erforschung der Ichthyofauna von Alabama geleistet hat.

USA (Zentralalabama): endemisch in den Einzugsgebieten des Alabama und Cahaba Rivers.
