Etymologie
Seta (= Borste); pinnis (= Flosse), bezieht sich auf die Rücken- und Bauchflossen, die "in borstigen Spitzen enden". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westlicher Atlantik: Nova Scotia, Kanada, durch den größten Teil der Westindischen Inseln; entlang der Küsten des Golfs von Mexiko und Südamerikas bis Mar del Plata, Argentinien. Fehlt auf den Bahamas.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 26.1.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Gegenwärtig gibt es keine Hinweise auf einen regionalen Rückgang durch den Fang.
