Typusfundort: Insel Astove, Aldabra Grupep, Seychellen, westlicher Indischer Ozean, ca. 10°06'S, 47°45'E (Karte).
Etymologie
Agilis (= schnell oder flink), Anspielung nicht erklärt, aber Smith beschrieb Riffbarsche im Allgemeinen als „vorsichtig oder schüchtern“ und schwer zu fangen, ohne auf Gift und Sprengstoff zurückzugreifen. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
weit verbreitet im westlichen und zentralen Indischen Ozean. Derzeit von den Malediven, dem Chagos-Archipel, den Seychellen, Madagaskar, den Comoro-Inseln und entlang der ostafrikanischen Küste zwischen Shimoni, Kenia und Bazaruto, Mosambik, bekannt. Wird typischerweise an äußeren Riffhängen in Tiefen von etwa 12–48 m gefunden.
