Etymologie
Von hypselo (= hoch); pterus (= Flügel, Flosse), bezogen auf die hohe Rückenflosse von männlichen Tieren in Balzstimmung. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Südöstliche U.S.A.: Florida und Alabama.
