Etymologie

Pelta (= kleines Schild); rhamphus (= Schnauze), vermutlich bezogen auf die Schnauze von Peltorhamphus novaezeelandiae, "flach, scharf, nach unten zu einem gebogenen hakenartigen Anhang geformt". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
