Etymologie
Pardos (= Leopard), bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf "zahlreiche braune Punkte" auf der Augenseite des Körpers, des Kopfes und der Flossen von Pardachirus marmoratus, "mit verstreuten weißen Ozellen, die braun umrandet sind, und mit einem braunen Fleck in der Mitte" (d. h. wie die Flecken eines Leoparden); a- (= ohne) und cheiros (= Hand), bezieht sich auf das Fehlen von Brustflossen.
