Typen
Syntypen: ZSI [ex Asiatic Soc. Bengal 599] (2), 2361 (1).
Typusfundort: Exostoma blythii wurde ursprünglich von einem unbekannten Fundort auf dem indischen Subkontinent von Day beschrieben. Day (1872) fügte später Exemplare aus Darjeeling, Indien, mit zu dieser Art hinzu, die Hora (1923) aber als unterschiedliche Art erkannte und als Glyptosternum hodgarti beschrieb. Regan (1907) glaubte zu wissen, dass Exostoma blythii von Pharping, Nepal, stammt. Dort konnten bisher aber keine Fische gefunden werden, die Exostoma blythii entsprechen.
Etymologie
Patronym nicht identifiziert, aber eindeutig zu Ehren von Edward Blyth (1810-1873), Kurator der Royal Asiatic Society of Bengalen, der mehrere Sisoriden-Taxa beschrieb. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Die Gefahren für diese Art sind unbekannt, da es wenig Informationen über die Biologie dieser Art gibt und daher die Auswirkungen potenzieller Bedrohungen (insbesondere solcher anthropogener Natur) unbekannt bleiben. Die derzeitigen Bedrohungen der aquatischen biologischen Vielfalt in all ihren bekannten Verbreitungsgebieten wurden ebenfalls nicht ausreichend identifiziert.
