Etymologie
Von poly (= viele); zona (= Band oder Gürtel), bezogen auf 24-30 weiße Ringe um den Körper. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer, Indopazifik: Ostafrika, Südafrika, Seychellen, Madagaskar und Maskarenen östlich bis zu den Marshall- und Tuamotu-Inseln, nördlich bis zum südlichen Japan und Taiwan, südlich bis zum westlichen Australien und Neukaledonien.

Status: Stand 9.12.2019:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt, obwohl sie wahrscheinlich in einigen Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets vom Verlust des Lebensraums und der Küstenentwicklung betroffen ist.
