Etymologie
Benannt nach Christoph Samuel John (1747-1813), ein deutscher Missionar in der dänischen Kolonie Tranquebar (heute Tharangambadi) in Indien, der für Bloch naturkundliche Exemplare sammelte, darunter vermutlich die Typusexempalre von Johnius carutta und Pennahia anea.
