Etymologie

Holos (= sämtliche oder ganz), bezieht sich darauf, wie diese Gattung am meisten den Vorfahren der diversen Gattung Apogon repräsentiert (beide Gattungen in der Unterfamilie gelten heute als basal für alle Apogoniden). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
