Etymologie
Bezieht sich auf "auffällige" Ähnlichkeit in der Färbung zwischen diser Art und der Typusart von Thayeria, Thayeria obliquua (Characidae). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Becken der Flüsse Solimões, Negro und Orinoco.
