Bezieht sich auf den hohen, stark komprimierten Körper.
Verbreitung
Flüsse und Bäche am Atlantikabhang in Südmexiko, Belize und Guatemala.

Status: Stand 4.02.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Die Bedrohungen für Hyphessobrycon compressus sind unbekannt. Die Art ist möglicherweise durch Wasserverschmutzung und übermäßige Entnahme von Wasserressourcen für die Landwirtschaft und den städtischen Verbrauch in seinem gesamten Verbreitungsgebiet bedroht.
