Typusfundort: Yembe-Fluss bei Banzyville, Demokratische Republik Kongo, etwa 4°18'N, 21°11'E (Karte).
Etymologie
Mio- (= weniger oder klein); lepis (= Schuppe), bezieht sich vermutlich auf weniger Schuppenreihen unterhalb der Seitenlinie im Vergleich zu Enteromius kessleri. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Cuanza- und Bengo-Becken in Angola, gesamtes Kongo-Becken sowie Okavango, Sambesi und Kafue-System. Vorkommen im Koki-Fluss (Zufluss des Tanganjikasees). Auch aus dem Gribingui (Einzugsgebiet des Tschadsees) gemeldet, dies muss jedoch bestätigt werden..
