Etymologie
Vom altgriechischen elops (Name für einen großen Fisch, wahrscheinlich für einen Stör) oder als Beinamen für Fische, was entweder schuppig oder stumm bedeuten kann, zum Beispiel "stumm wie ein Fisch". Das Suffix stammt von dem lateinischen Wort forma ab, das Form, Gestalt oder Aussehen bedeutet.
