Indopazifik: Rotes Meer und Ostafrika bis zu den Line- und Gesellschaftsinseln, im Norden bis Südjapan, im Süden bis Australien.

Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art ist Bestandteil der Mischfischerei in ihrem gesamten Verbreitungsgebiet. Sie nutzt den Lebensraum von Korallenriffen, Mangroven und / oder Seegras für verschiedene Phasen ihres Lebenszyklus und kann durch den Verlust des Lebensraums in Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets bedroht sein.
