Etymologie
Oblongus (= länglich), mit Bezug auf den zusammengedrückten, länglichen Körper. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Golf von Aden, Ostafrika, Südafrika, Seychellen, Madagaskar und westliche Maskarenen östlich bis Fidschi, nördlich bis Südjapan, südlich bis Queensland (Australien).
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 31.1.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Obwohl die Art mit Haken und Leinen, Grundschleppnetzen und anderen handwerklichen Fanggeräten gefangen wird, wurde bisher kein Rückgang der Populationen beobachtet oder vermutet, der auf diese kleinräumige Ausbeutung zurückzuführen wäre. Es sind keine anderen größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt.
