Etymologie
Verkleinerungsform von Clupea (Clupeidae, ursprüngliche Gattung), vielleicht in Anlehnung an die französische Bezeichnung "Petit Cailleu" aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westatlantik: östliches Florida (USA) und Bahamas südlich bis Santa Catarina (Brasilien), einschließlich Golf von Mexiko und Karibisches Meer.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 3.4.2024:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Alle Lebensstadien dieser Art kommen in küstennahen Gebieten (einschließlich Seegraswiesen, Mangroven und Flussmündungen) vor und sind daher leicht als Nahrungs- und Köderressourcen zu nutzen. Diese küstennahen Lebensräume sind anfällig für die Erschließung der Küstengebiete und andere anthropogene Einflüsse. Ausbeutung und Lebensraumverschlechterung werden jedoch nicht als große Bedrohung für die weltweite Population angesehen.
