Etymologie
Chonos (= Trichter); phoros (= tragen), bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf die Art und Weise, wie die Beckenflossen zu einem trichterförmigen Loch verschmolzen sind, ein Grundelmerkmal, das Poey zur Unterscheidung dieses Taxons von den Eleotriden verwendete. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
