Etymologie
Cetos (= Wal); mimus (= nachahmen), "ähnelt in seinem vertikalen Umriss und seinen Proportionen denen der Glattwale (Balaenidae), eine Ähnlichkeit, die durch die Form des riesigen Mauls und des stark gebogenen Unterkiefers, der etwas über die Schnauze hinausragt, noch verstärkt wird".
