Etymologie

Benannt nach der Typuslokalität, dem Point Aguja.

Südöstlicher Pazifik: Ecuador südlich bis Peru.

Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art kommt größtenteils außerhalb der Region der Tiefseefischerei vor, die meist in Tiefen von weniger als 500 m fischt. Sie ist ein möglicher Beifang in der peruanischen Seehechtfischerei, aber die Überschneidung zwischen den Fischereiaktivitäten und dem Verbreitungsgebiet der Art ist vermutlich minimal. Sie hat daher in tieferen Gewässern außerhalb der Fischereigründe ein beträchtliches Rückzugsgebiet.
