Etymologie
Makro- (= lang); ops (= Auge), bezieht sich auf das viel größere Auge im Vergleich zu Enteromius ablabes. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Weit verbreitet in den Savannengebieten Westafrikas einschließlich des Tschadbeckens, Niger, Volta, Mono, Ouémé, Gambia, Senegal und anderer Küstenbecken. Auch bekannt aus dem Kotto, Ubangi-Becken, mittleres Kongo-Becken.

Status: Stand 20.4.2022: LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Gegenwärtig sind keine Gefahren bekannt.
