Benannt zu Ehren des amerikanischen Chirurgen und Zoologen (und späteren überzeugten weißen Rassisten) Robert Wilson Shufeldt (1850-1934), der die Typusexemplare sammelte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westlicher Atlantik: von New Jersey bis Indian River, Florida, und Florida Panhandle bis Osttexas, Golf von Mexiko.

Status: Stand 10.7.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Die möglichen Auswirkungen lokaler Bedrohungen wurden nicht bewertet. Auf der Ebene des gesamten Verbreitungsgebiets sind jedoch keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt.
