Verbreitung
Westlicher Atlantik: North Carolina (U.S.A.) südlich bis Guyana, einschließlich Golf von Mexiko und Karibisches Meer.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 10.03.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es besteht eine erhebliche Bedrohung durch die Verschlechterung und den Verlust von Lebensräumen aufgrund des Klimawandels, da die Art von Korallenriffen und Seegrashabitaten abhängig ist. Diese Art ist in Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets in einigen mittelamerikanischen Ländern durch die Ausbeutung in der handwerklichen Fischerei zur Nahrungsgewinnung und als Köder bedroht. Der Gelbe Stechrochen wird gelegentlich für die Verwendung in privaten Aquarien gesammelt. Diese Art könnte auch durch die Erholung ihrer Raubtiere wie dem Goliath Grouper (Epinephelus itajara) in Florida zurückgehen.
