Etymologie
Abgeleitet von surman, einem Begriff, der von Fischern in Odessa (Ukraine) für Ponticola cephalargoides verwendet wurde, aber von Nordmann auf diese Art angewandt wurde. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Eurasien: Einzugsgebiete des Schwarzen, Asowschen und Kaspischen Meeres.
