Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Die Standorte, an denen die Fische vorkommen, sind durch Entwaldung, Waschmittelverschmutzung durch Waschmaschinen und Pestizidbelastung aus den angrenzenden Reisfeldern bedroht. Die Typuslokalität ist heute eine große Gemeinde.
