Etymologie
Vermutlich tautonym mit Gadus merluccius (obwohl Rafinesque den Artnamen mit einem „c“ geschrieben hat); alter Name für Seehecht, abgeleitet von maris (= Meer) und lucius (= Hecht), „Seehecht“. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
