Etymologie
Etymologie nicht erklärt, vielleicht vom griechischen Wort geotragia (= "Essen von erdähnlichen Substanzen"), in Bezug darauf, wie dieses Neunauge, wie andere Neunaugen auch, ihr Saugmaul verwendet, um sich an untergetauchten Felsen und Steinen fest zu setzen, wodurch der Eindruck entsteht, dass es Erde frisst.
