Etymologie
Niphon (jetzt Nippon oder Japan), beschrieben anhand der Abbildung eines Exemplars aus Japan (kommt im nordwestlichen Pazifik von Viêt Nam und China bis Korea, Russland und Japan vor).
Verbreitung
Nordwestpazifik: beschränkt auf die subtropischen und gemäßigten Gewässer Chinas, das Gelbe Meer und das Japanische Meer nördlich von Wladiwostok, ehemalige UdSSR. Wird oft mit Scomberomorus munroi verwechselt.

Gefahren für diese Art: Es handelt sich um eine stark kommerziell genutzte Art, die mit Kiemennetzen, Ringwadenfängern und Stellnetzen gefangen wird. Diese Art ist die wichtigste Scomberomorus-Art in Japan, wo sie für die Fischerei gezüchtet und ausgesetzt wird.
