Etymologie
Chaeno- (= gähnen oder gaffen); opsis (= Gesicht oder Aussehen), bezogen auf das große Maul von Chaenopsis ocellata, mit der „fast horizontalen, linearen Spalte, die sich hinter den Augen fortsetzt“ (Name offenbar von Poey geprägt, aber von Gill zur Verfügung gestellt).
