Etymologie
[O]uros (= Schwanz); aspis (= Schild), Anspielung nicht erklärt, bezieht sich vermutlich auf große vorwärts gerichtete Schuppen am Schwanzstiel. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project).
Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Ostafrika, Réunion (westliche Maskarenen) und Persischer Golf, östlich bis zu den Hawaii-Inseln, nördlich bis zu den Ryukyu-Inseln, südlich bis zum nördlichen Australien.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 31.1.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Obwohl diese Art in der Subsistenzfischerei und manchmal auch als Beifang in der Schleppnetzfischerei gefangen wird, wurde bisher kein Rückgang der Population beobachtet oder vermutet. Es sind keine anderen größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt.
