Etymologie

Photos (= Licht), bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf das suborbitale phosphoreszierende Organ und zwei Reihen von leuchtenden Punkten entlang des unteren Teils der Seiten, mit zahlreichen rudimentären ähnlichen Organen über die Körperhaut verstreut; nectes (= Schwimmer).
