Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Es ist nicht bekannt, dass Zanclorhynchus spinifer kommerziell gefangen wird, obwohl er ein Beifang sein könnte, insbesondere über Unterwasser-Gebirgen, wo es eine Reihe von kommerziell wichtigen Fischereien gibt. Da jedoch keine Berichte darüber vorliegen, dass diese Art als Beifang genommen wird, ist es unwahrscheinlich, dass es eine erhebliche Bedrohung für sie gibt.
