Typusfundort: Algoa Bay, Südafrika, 33°52'30"S, 25°47'30"E (Karte), südwestlicher Indischer Ozean, Tiefe 22 Faden.
Etymologie
Marginatus (= gerandet oder eingefasst), bezogen auf schwarze Brust- und vertikale Flossen auf der Augenseite, „weiß umrandet“. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Beschränkt auf südafrikanische Gewässer von Knysna bis zur Delagoa Bay. Vorkommen außerhalb dieses Gebietes beziehen sich auch Fehlidentifikationen (siehe Okamoto & Motomura, 2021).
