Typusfundort: Río Apure in der Nähe der Mündung des Río Boquerones, östlich von San Fernando de Apure, Apure, Venezuela.

Von orthos (= gerade), bezogen auf das dorsale Profil von Kopf und Körper. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Diese Art ist weit verbreitet im Amazonas- und Orinoco-Becken.
