Typusfundort: [In mari lndico oram Coromandelicam] Coromandel-Küste, Indien, östlicher Indischer Ozean.
Etymologie
Benannt nach Malabar (d.h. Südwestindien), vermutlich liegt der Fundort des Typusexemplars aber an der Koromandelküste (östliches Indien).
Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Sokotra (Jemen), Golf von Oman und Persischer Golf im Osten bis Palau, Fidschi und Tonga, im Norden bis Südkorea und Südjapan, im Süden bis Westaustralien, New South Wales (Australien) und Neukaledonien.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 22.08.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art wird in einigen Gebieten stark befischt, und im Persischen Golf und in Indonesien kommt es bereits zur Überfischung. Die Art ist aufgrund ihrer langlebigen, langsam wachsenden Lebensweise anfällig für Überfischung.
