Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des Meeresbiologen Armand Krempf (1879-?), Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography (Viêt Nam), der die Typusexemplare sammelte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Einzugsgebiete des Mekong, des Roten Flusses und des Hue-Flusses, Thailand, Laos, Kambodscha und Vietnam, sowie entlang des Südchinesischen Meeres in Vietnam und Guangdong, China.

Status: Stand 23.02.2023:VU Vulnerable (gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Die größte Bedrohung für die Art ist derzeit die übermäßige Befischung während ihrer Wanderung und im Meer. Die Art ist sehr empfindlich gegenüber Staudämmen entlang der großen Flüsse auf ihrer Wanderroute. Entlang der Hauptmigrationsroute der Art (die Hauptpopulation nutzte den Mekong) im Mekong sind derzeit zahlreiche Staudämme geplant. Wenn einige oder alle dieser Dämme gebaut werden, wird die Art von ihren Laichgründen ferngehalten und kann nur in kleiner Zahl überleben, in Populationen die andere Flüsse zum Brüten nutzen können.
