Etymologie

Von rhinc, vermutlich ein Tippfehler für rhine (= Raspel) (oft als rhynchos (= Schnauze) übersetzt); odon (= Zähne), bezieht sich auf kleine, leicht gekrümmte Zähne, "in Längsreihen angeordnet und insgesamt so an den Vorderkanten der Kiefer angeordnet, dass sie die Ähnlichkeit einer jeweils über ihnen liegenden Raspel oder Feile zeigen".
