Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von Stanley H. Weitzman in Anerkennung seines großen Beitrags zu unserem Wissen über die stevardiinen Characiden und andere neotropische Süßwasserfische.
Verbreitung
Brasilien: Weit verbreitet und häufig in mehreren kleinen Nebenflüssen der Zuflüsse zur Laguna dos Patos und zum Rio Tramandaí. Pseudocorynopoma stanleyi ist ein typischer Oberflächenfresser. Diese Art ernährt sich hauptsächlich von allochthonen Arthropoden, insbesondere Insekten, selbst in den Herbst- und Wintermonaten (Mai, Juni, Juli und August), wenn sie in subtropischen Gebieten weniger häufig vorkommen. Dieser Fisch kommt besonders häufig unter Bäumen vor, die an Flussufern zu finden sind, und verschwindet normalerweise aus Abschnitten, wo der Galeriewald entfernt wurde.
