Etymologie
Oxy (= scharf); rhynchus (= Schnauze), bezieht sich auf seine spitze Schnauze. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Gefahren für diese Art: Das Aussterben dieser Art ist möglicherweise auf eine Kombination von Faktoren zurückzuführen, darunter die Überfischung durch die frühen Siedler, die Verschlechterung des Süßwasserlebensraums durch die Abholzung der Wälder, die zu einer erhöhten Lichteinstrahlung und Wassertemperatur führte, und die Auswirkungen invasiver Salmoniden.
