Typusfundort: Cape Point Leuchtturm, Richtung S.83°E. Entfernung von 35,5 Meilen, Südafrika, Tiefe 360 Faden (= ca. 658 m).
Etymologie
Macro- (= groß); ophthalmus (= Auge), Durchmesser des Auges ½ Körperhöhe und fast die doppelte Kopflänge. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indopazifik: Ostafrika nach Osten bis zum östlichen Zentralpazifik.

Status: Stand 30.08.2021:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
