Etymologie
Flavus (= gelb); maculatus (= gefleckt), bezieht sich auf kleine orangefarbene Flecken auf dem Oberkörper. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer; Indo-Westpazifik: Ostkap und KwaZulu-Natal (Südafrika), Ostafrika, Persischer Golf, Sokotra (Jemen), Komoren, Madagaskar und Maskarenen (Mauritius), östlich bis zu den Philippinen und Vanuatu, nördlich bis Südjapan, südlich bis Geographe Bay (Westaustralien) und Sydney (New South Wales, Australien).
