Etymologie
Felis (= Katze); ceps (= Kopf), d.h. Katzenkopf, eine Abwandlung des Begriffs "Wels", der sich auf die katzenartigen Schnurrhaare (Barteln) bezieht, die den Welsen ihren Namen geben. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Südöstlicher Atlantik, südwestlicher Indischer Ozean: Walvis Bay (Namibia) südlich bis zum Kap der Guten Hoffnung (Südafrika), dann nördlich bis zur Transkei (Südafrika); südliches Madagaskar.
